Can Drinking Tea (of All Things) Really Help You Lose Weight?

Could the Real Secret to Weight Loss
Be Something as Simple as Tea?

By Elizabeth (Liz) Swann Miller

There I was standing in the wilds of Africa with a massive, red, venomous snake looking right at me and a single thought racing through my mind –“why in the world did I risk my life for this cup of tea?”

The truth is I was looking for what I considered to be the weight loss “holy grail” - a tea that legend claimed completely erased hunger pangs.

The story so intrigued me that I decided to leave the comfort of my home in the US and venture into a remote area of Africa populated by a Kenyan tribe to find out if the tales about this ‘voodoo tea’ were true.

What I discovered changed my life, in that it has allowed me to lose 41 pounds of unwanted fat.

That’s right, not only did the tea really exist (and it’s definitely not ‘voodoo’) but it turned out to be even better than the stories let on.

You see, not only does the tea get rid of hunger pangs; it also activates your body’s natural ability to burn fat. On top of all that, it also boosts your energy without containing potentially harmful caffeine.

I’m going to tell you all about this incredible tea, including how you can get the recipe, in just a minute. But before I do that, let me explain in a little more detail how I ended up in the jungles of Africa.

The first thing you should know about me is that I have degrees in both Psychology and Naturopathy and for over 10 years, I’ve been a practicing Naturopath (ND) specializing in healing through nutrition.

Basically, what that means is, I help people lose weight and improve their health through their diet. Naturally, when I heard about this amazing tea, I was excited.

The fact that I heard the story while I was battling excess weight myself is ultimately what led me to Africa.

At that time, my pregnancy had really taken a toll on me. After multiple complications, I was put on bed rest … I spent 80% of my time stuck in bed, and I was forced to give up the active lifestyle I loved.

I became sluggish. I felt exhausted all the time. Eventually, I developed a sweet tooth, and I absolutely lost control of my weight.

I felt like a fraud. Here I was helping people all over the country lose weight and get the bodies they wanted while I was lying in bed looking worse than I have in my entire life.

Honestly, I felt disgusted with myself, and even though my husband was very supportive, telling me he didn’t care what I looked like, I knew deep down he just wasn’t attracted to me anymore.

Finally, I decided to face the music. I got on the scale one day after having my baby and saw that I was 41 pounds over my target weight.

I couldn’t believe it. I went back to bed and cried.

If you’ve ever gained extra fat, if you’ve ever felt like your body was out of control, I know how you feel. More importantly, I now have a solution that works. It’s fast, easy, and it tastes delicious. I’m going to tell you more about this tea in just a second.

This is the very same tea that helped me drop every one of those 41 hard-to-lose pounds. I feel that weight loss coupled with the success stories of so many others who have followed my program more than justify my “crazy” trip deep into the jungles of Africa.

Now, about that tea...

To put it simply, red tea has the most remarkable “fat-flushing” action I’ve discovered in 15 years of traveling the world as a Medical Maverick.

I’ve seen some truly mind-blowing fat-loss results, but this red tea is by far the most impressive, most incredible thing I’ve ever discovered.

In studying the tea, I’ve learned that its 5 unique ingredients are scientifically proven to trick stubborn fat cells to open and release hard-to-lose fat.

That means it’s now possible to flush away years — if not decades — of unwanted fat simply by drinking this powerful beverage.

Without getting too much into the science and boring you, the five herbal ingredients basically work in harmony to transmit signals from your brain to your fat cells to burn unwanted fat. It allows you to shrink your fat cells without any feelings of hunger.

Up until now one of the main problems with trying to lose fat (especially around your belly) has always been getting stubborn fat cells to “let go” of the “locked in fat” so the body can “flush harmful toxins and fat away.”

Due to cutting-edge research, we now know that the hormone “Noradrenaline” may hold the key to unlocking fat cells and shrinking them.

In a landmark study at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), part of the NIH, researchers showed that Noradrenaline is an arousing hormone known to control cell volume. (NIH/National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. "Brain may flush out toxins during sleep; Sleep clears brain of molecules associated with neurodegeneration: Study." ScienceDaily. www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2013/10/131017144636.htm (accessed July 2, 2017).

In other words, Noradrenaline is what causes the action of “the incredible shrinking fat cell.” It signals your body to start using your belly fat for energy.

Now here is the really good news:

People who drink this delicious red tea experience increased Noradrenaline production. That’s why they lose a lot of weight, particularly in the typically hard-to-lose belly area.

Let me repeat what I just said:

Results show that fat cell size and fat storing volume actually shrinks when you drink this red tea!

That is revolutionary information – and the benefits of drinking this tea don’t just stop with weight loss.

When I started drinking this incredibly delicious red tea, my entire mood changed. Instead of being exhausted, I had a ton of natural energy.

This red tea was unbelievably refreshing, and when I drank it, I was never hungry.

Drinking red tea also helped me completely eliminate my soda addiction.

I also noticed after a few days of drinking the red tea that I was sweating less. And my breathing was easier, in spite of the intense African heat, which often rose to a scorching 105 degrees!

Plus, even though I had to climb a massive hill to get to the village every day, I actually had more energy than ever before.

I started sleeping better, and waking up more rested and refreshed. I was even more relaxed and calm, despite having to deal with the hordes of flies that were in the area!

And that’s still not all the benefits that I noticed, my stress level dropped, and I was happier than I’d been in a very long time.

Of course, the weight loss was what really got my attention. The weight was really falling off me.

I lost almost 20 pounds that first month.

That’s when I knew … I wasn’t crazy for making that trip to Africa. In fact, it was probably the best decision of my life! I think red tea might just be one of the biggest weight loss discoveries of the past 50 to 100 years.

It is certainly working for many people who have struggled to lose weight in the past. TURMERIC AND ITS INCREDIBLE USES

This golden-colored spice is used in traditional cooking in India, giving curry and mustard its color. It is high in antioxidants and is anti-inflammatory. A cousin of ginger, it is used to add color and flavor in many dishes. But did you know it has many other uses as well?
Just add more it to your recipes, or ask your doctor about possibly taking turmeric in pill form, and see the many health benefits. Its compounds, curcumin and turmerone, are proving to be a helpful natural medicine.
Usage information is detailed at the end of the article.

Should you use fresh or dried turmeric?

Most of the items below use dry powered turmeric. With cooking, use fresh turmeric root or ground turmeric. Keep in mind that about one inch of grated fresh turmeric equals one teaspoon of ground turmeric.

21 Healthy Ways You Should Be Using Turmeric:

1. Immunity Boosting Tea.

The turmeric tea can be use every day to boost immunity or as an extra punch when you are sick. Not only will it feel good in your throat, this tea will fight inflammation.

2. Alleviate arthritis.

Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, traditional Chinese and Indian medicines have used turmeric for many years to treat arthritis. The Arthritis Foundation also promotes it, pointing out several studies that show its benefits as a natural supplement.

3. Prevent Alzheimer’s disease.

According to many studies on the subject, turmeric naturally blocks the formation of the beta-amyloid. These proteins are responsible for clumping together to block brain function as it relates to Alzheimer’s.

4. Treat ringworm.

To make a paste, mix a teaspoon of the spice with a little water, and then spread on ringworm. Leave for 10 minutes and wipe off.

5. Prevent cancer.

Its antioxidant power protects cells from free radicals that damage cellular DNA; it also helps the body to destroy mutated cancer cells so they can’t spread. It does this by enhancing liver function and also inhibiting a protein that causes tumors to form.

6. Prevent Type 2 Diabetes.

Turmeric has been studied and shown to prevent the disease in those who have prediabetes. Doctors say that it is because the spice lessens insulin resistance.

7. Digestive issues.

Bile absorbs fats in the small intestine; but sometimes bile doesn’t move like it should. For indigestion, turmeric can help the body release bile by stimulating the gallbladder. So add more turmeric to your diet to get things moving along.

8. Reduce cholesterol.

Animal studies have shown turmeric to consistently lower LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, and also keep the LDL from being oxidized, hopefully studies on humans will show the same thing.

9. Heal wounds.

Turmeric reduces inflammation and has a lot of healing power. All it takes is a little turmeric powder to heal a cut or burn. Simply sprinkle a little on the area or to the bandage to aid in healing. To make a turmeric healing paste, It can also disinfect the area.

10. Treat jaundice.

When your bile ducts become obstructed, bile can mix with your blood and eventually cause jaundice; one of the sure fire signs is yellowing of the skin and eyes.
To treat it, try the jaundice tea recipe. It just takes water, honey, turmeric, honey and black pepper.

11. Detox the liver.

Turmeric naturally removes toxins from the blood by producing enzymes and repairing damaged cells. This is very beneficial to the liver. Eating turmeric helps fights cirrhosis.

12. Ease heartburn.

In a study, turmeric was found to be effective against heartburn, most likely for its anti-inflammatory qualities.

13. Helps the brain.

Turmeric has been found to increase levels of brain-derived neurotropic factor, or BDNF. This is a hormone that can help the brain make connections and ultimately keep your brain strong and clear. Also, Aromatic turmerone, a compound in turmeric, is being researched.

14. Improve skin.

In a study of people who had skin damaged by ultraviolent radiation, researchers applied turmeric extracts. Within six weeks of treatments, they saw improvements in skin hydration and sebum content.

15. Help ease depression.

In a study with patients on Prozac and patients on turmeric, researchers found that turmeric was very effective in managing depression, and that patients tolerated it very well. The study was published in Phytotherapy Research.
The all-natural alternative might be a great help for many people.

16. Get rid of headaches.

A lot of medications on the market help take away headaches, but many have side effects. Instead try the all-natural turmeric, which includes cyclooxygenase inhibitors, the same things put into headache medicine.

17. Natural Makeup: Foundation pigment.

Do you have trouble finding just the right color of makeup foundation? Add a little turmeric until you reach the color you are after. Just add as little or as much as you need to adjust to your skin tone.

18. Dye Easter eggs.

Who needs a store-bought dye kit for Easter eggs? You already have some great options in the kitchen, including turmeric.
Following these Natural Egg Dye Directions: boil water, vinegar and turmeric, then add an already hard-boiled egg. Leave in for 5 minutes or much longer (even overnight) depending on how deep of a color you want.

19. Face mask

Make a face mask using milk, turmeric and raw honey. Use about a teaspoon of honey and a teaspoon of turmeric. Then add milk. Keep the consistency thick so it will stay as a mask on your face and not drip. Be sure to wear an old shirt; turmeric stains. Let the mask harden on the outside edges. This will take about 20 minutes. Carefully rinse without splashing.

20. Cracked heels

With its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric makes a great treatment for cracked heels, especially cracks as a result from an infection. Try mixing a paste with olive, castor or coconut oil. Spread the turmeric paste all over the feet, even between the toes. Wrap feet with an old towel, and leave on for 20 to 30 minutes. Rinse off. Remember turmeric can stain yellow, so don’t do this treatment prior to exposing bare feet.

21. Turmeric Smoothies

Not really liking the flavor of turmeric or not sure how to prepare the root? Toss it in smoothies!

Dosage Information on Turmeric:

Be sure to read this website for any turmeric interactions with medicine. Turmeric from University of Maryland Medical Center suggests these dosages for adults:

LEMONGRASS: USES AND ITS BENEFITS TO HEALTH AND WELLNESS

Cymbopogon, better known as lemongrass, is a genus of Asian, African, Australian, and tropical island plants in the grass family. Some species are commonly cultivated as culinary and medicinal herbs because of their scent, resembling that of lemons. Wikipedia
Scientific nameCymbopogon
RankGenus
Did you knowA lemongrass tisane can be made from either the fresh or dried leaves. thedailytea.com

What is Lemongrass?

Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) is a tall, perennial grass in a class of about 45 species of grasses native to the tropical and sub-tropical climates of Asia, Australia and Africa. India is the highest producer of lemongrass (producing over 2 million pounds per year), where it is cultivated along the mountain range of the Western Ghats and beside the foothills of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim in the Himalayan mountains.

How it Grows

Lemongrass has red base stems and can grow up to 10 feet in its favored habitat. The greatest time of growth for lemongrass is during the summer in moist, rich soil. If you're thinking of planting lemongrass, just remember its roots tend to take over in a garden, so physical barriers should be put up whenever planting the grass near other plants.
Each stalk of lemongrass has several layers, each growing tightly wrapped around its core. The top layers are tough and green like a corn husk's outer layer. When peeled away, you will find the familiar inner white core of the lemongrass stalk, which best for cooking.

What to Look For

When buying lemongrass, it’s important to keep a few essential facts in mind:
  • Look for firm stalks; stalks that are soft or rubbery will not yield good flavor.
  • The lower stalk should be a pale yellow, while the upper stalks are green.
  • Stay away from lemongrass that has brown outer leaves.
Once you’ve selected your lemongrass, consider these storage tips:
  • If you find your stalks have dried out, place them into pots of soil. Within ten days or so, they will grow new, bright-green blades.
  • Good-quality lemongrass can be stored in the refrigerator, tightly wrapped, for up to two weeks.
  • Lemongrass freezes well. Some of the aroma and freshness may be lost when frozen for long periods of time, but the unique flavor will remain and the grass will be easier to cut.
  • Lemongrass stalks can also be cut into small pieces and dried. These dried pieces should be stored in airtight jars then used as is or ground to a powder before incorporating into a dish.

How to Use Lemongrass

IN TEA

In African and Latin American cultures, lemongrass is frequently used (fresh or dried) to make tea.
Teatulia’s Lemongrass Herbal Infusion is a delicate blend of lemongrass and bay leaf, both grown in our own USDA-Certified organic tea garden. The bay leaf adds a uniquely invigorating aroma to the citrusy lemongrass, making the drink extremely refreshing when served hot or iced. To prepare our Lemongrass Herbal Infusion, pour 8 ounces of boiling water over one pyramid tea bag or 2 grams of the loose leaf herbal tea, and steep for five minutes.
Because Teatulia’s Lemongrass Herbal Infusion is tisane (also known as herbal tea), it can be left steeping in water indefinitely without the flavor developing the burnt, metallic or bitter taste that black, green or white teas can develop if allowed to steep too long. Tisanes are not made from the leaves of a Camellia sinensis tea plant and therefore do not adhere to the same strict steeping times. Because tisanes do not contain the tea plant, they also do not contain caffeine.

IN FOOD

The lower stalk of the lemongrass is widely used as an herb in cooking in Asian cuisine. Its mild citrus flavor is can be used in soups, poultry, beef and seafood dishes in its fresh, powered or dried format. When cooking with lemongrass, it’s usually best to remove all the outer layers, leaving just the tender white inner stalk. Many recipes call for “bruising” or bending the lemongrass several times to help release the flavor.

AT HOME

The oil extracted from lemongrass can be used for several different household purposes.
The characteristic bright citrus smell of the oil makes its beneficial for scenting soaps, detergents and insect repellent. The major use of lemongrass oil is as a source of citral, which is a popular ingredient in perfumes, cosmetics and beverages.
Lemongrass oil is most often used as a natural pest repellent in gardens to ward off insects. Despite its ability to repel insects, honeybees are attracted to the pheromones of the oil. This characteristic of the oil can be beneficial when trying to attract and capture swarms of bees. The oil is also used as an insect repellant ingredient in sprays, candles, soaps and aromatherapy. Research studies have shown the oil to have strong anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, making it an essential ingredient in household disinfectants.

PURSLANE'S HEALTH BENEFITS AND HOW TO USE IT

Purslane is a succulent annual trailing plant that grows in many countries because it thrives in poor soil. It can be eaten as a cooked vegetable and is great to use in salads, soups, stews or any dish you wish to sprinkle it over. Purslane is antibacterial, antiscorbutic, depurative, diuretic and febrifuge.

Soft, succulent Purslane leaves have more omega-3 fatty acids than in some of the fish oils. If you are a vegetarian and pledge to avoid all forms of animal products, then here is the answer! Go for this healthy dark-green leafy vegetable and soon you will forget fish!

Botanically, this herbaceous leafy vegetable belongs to the family of Portulacaceae and scientifically known as Portulaca oleracea.
Other common names in place for this green leafy are pursley, pigweed, or verdolaga.

Purslane is native to Indian sub-continent and now distributed widely across the continents but actually as a wild weed. There exist varieties of pursley with variation in leaf size, thickness, and leaf arrangement and pigment distribution. This hardy herb plant requires relatively less water and soil nutrients and grows well sunny climates. The plant grows up to 12-15 cm in height as a low-lying spread.

Purslane is widely grown in many Asian and European regions as a staple leafy vegetable. Its leaves appear thick, mucilaginous, and have a slightly sour and salty (piquant) taste. Leaves and tender stems are edible. In addition to succulent stems and leaves, its yellow flower buds are also favored, especially in salads.

Purslane seeds, appear like black tea powder granules, are often used to make some herbal drinks.

PURSLANE HEALTH BENEFITS

Like many other weeds, purslane is not only edible but also far more nutritious than many of the crops that we plant! Here’s just a few of the health benefits of purslane:
  • Seven times the beta-carotene of carrots. It is an excellent source of Vitamin-A, (1320 IU/100 g, provides 44% of RDA) one of the highest among green leafy vegetables. Vitamin-A is a known powerful natural antioxidant and an essential vitamin for vision. It is also required to maintain healthy mucosa and skin. Consumption of natural vegetables and fruits rich in vitamin-A is known to help to protect from lung and oral cavity cancers.
  • Six times more vitamin E than spinach
  • Fourteen times more Omega 3 fatty acids.
  • Purslane is also a rich source of vitamin-C, and some B-complex vitamins like riboflavin, niacin, pyridoxine and carotenoids, as well as dietary minerals, such as iron, magnesium, calcium, potassium, and manganese.
  • Furthermore, present in purslane are two types of betalain alkaloid pigments, the reddish Î² -cyanins, and the yellow Î² -xanthins. Both pigment types are potent antioxidants and have been found to have antimutagenic properties in laboratory studies. [Proc. West. Pharmacol. Soc. 45: 101-103 (2002)].
Purslane is also said to be a natural remedy for insomnia. It has many of the same health benefits as other leafy greens.

SERVING SUGGESTIONS AND PREPARATIONS:

In the market, buy fresh and healthy-looking purslane; look carefully for mold, yellow or dark spots as they indicate inferior quality. Go for organic produce whenever feasible.
Wash fresh leaves and stem in clean cold running water in order to remove any sand and insecticide/fungicide residues. After removing from water, mop it with a soft cloth to remove any moisture in them before storing in the refrigerator.

Purslane can be kept in the frige for about 3-4 days but should be eaten while the leaves are fresh and not wilted.

The stems and flower buds are also edible. Trim the tough stems near roots using a sharp knife. Cook under low temperature for a shorter period in order to preserve the majority of nutrients. Although antioxidant properties are significantly decreased on frying and boiling, its minerals, carotenes, and flavonoids may remain intact with steam cooking.

Here are some serving tips:
  • Fresh, raw leaves can be used as salad and as vegetable juice.
  • Fresh, tender leaves are used in salads. Sautéed and gently stewed stems and leaves served as a side dish with fish and poultry.
  • It has also been used in soup and curry (Goni soppu curry) preparations and eaten with rice and ragi cake (ragi mudde) in many mouthwatering purslane recipes in South Indian region, especially in parts of former Mysore province of Karnataka state.
  • Stir-fried and mixed with other like-minded greens such as spinach and vegetables, it makes favorite dishes.
Purslane contains oxalic acid, a naturally-occurring substance found in some vegetables, which may crystallize as oxalate stones in the urinary tract in some people. 100 g fresh leaves contain 1.31 g of oxalic acid, more than in spinach (0.97 g/100 g) and cassava (1.26 g/100 g). It is, therefore, people with known oxalate urinary tract stones are advised to avoid eating purslane and certain vegetables belonging to Amaranthaceae and Brassica family. Adequate intake of water is therefore encouraged to maintain normal urine output.
